Default 2001 T/A Driving lights...

Basically, we all know they suck. I'm wanting to upgrade...not just the bulbs (I understand there is a wattage limit so you won't melt the clear plastic cover) but the whole assembly...I found PIAA 510 series, PN 5164, but I was wondering what else there is out there...I don't even know where to start looking...too much crap for ricers out there to filter through, so I figured I'd ask ya'll...

Thoughts?

Another vote for Blazertech 3200s!! The install is very simple and the lights themselves work very well. They have a slight blue tint to the lens when theyre off, but when theyre on, theyre pure white. Heres a pic of my car from ground level. They don't blind oncoming traffic, but are bright enough that you can actually see at night without the main headlights on.

I tried looking for these in ebay all the time and found nothing.

Where can you get these? for how much? Whats included with it? My bulb housing started melting from KMAX 37.5w bulbs. Would this work as a complete replacement for me?

Which ones fit the T/A? 3200 or 2200? The linky to the Grand Prix store is for 2200s...just wondering...also, how is the install? How much fabricating is involved?

thx-

The difference between the two is the 3200 (and the WalMart Cyberwhite ones) are a pure white driving light. The 2200s are a true fog light and have a slight yellowish tint and a little piece of metal that blocks light from going at an upward angle.

The installation of each is the same. There is a walkthrough on how to install them here:

The Walmart up here sells both. And yes it comes with all the hardware. Just follow the directions on LS1.com.

This is the link on the GP store.

No offense to those with Wal-Mart brand lights, but they are exactly that....Wal-Mart brand lights. Blazer Tech also makes the stock driving lights! At least on the Camaro anyway.

My lighting is all PIAA. All headlight bulbs as well as my driving lights. My first mod was to replace the cheapo Blazer pencil beams. The 1000x PIAA driving lights I have are brighter than my low beam headlights. I don't even drive at night with the low beams on (unless I'm out in the middle of nowhere, otherwise the two combined blind oncoming drivers no matter how low I attempt to adjust them.

Here are the 1000X's that I installed;

Here they are installed as well as having my low beams and driving lights wired to remain on when the "Hi's" are flicked on;

CMNTMXR57, nice PIAA lights. How much did you get the fog PIAAs for?

Im planning on getting HIDs for the headlamps.. dont think Ill be willing to get PIAA fogs if I cant be able to use both because of blinding on coming traffic But how much are they for? And whats the bulb wattage power that they use?

Per PIAA it's a 55W bulb but has the output of 85W.

Since I had factory driving lights in the first place, I only bought the PIAA lights themselves. I didn't get their whole "kit" that usually is sold in set. So I think I paid under $200.

However, please do not generalize the qualily of the Cyberwhite lights like that.

I can assure you, the "cheao" Walmart lights, as you put them, come with a thick glass lens and the casing is made out of a very rigid metal. The electrical connections are housed in a thick rubber boot to eliminate entry of moisture into the system.

The Walmart lights are of a SIGNIFICANTLY higher quality then the stock Trans Am lights, which come in a complete plastic housing and with a plastic lens. The Blazertech lights easily weigh twice as much as the stock lights, due to the materials used. Not only that, the light output is significantly more effective. Although I wouldn't do it, I can easily drive around at night, with just my fog lights on, and still be able to see a good distance down the road. The stock lights barely illuminate the road in front of you enough to be visible from the driver's seat.

The PIAAs might look good on a Camaro, but since this topic was about Trans Ams, the Blazertech lights look a little more like stock replacements than your particular PIAA lights would.

Once again, Im not ripping on PIAAs quality or criticizing your opinion, however, to dismiss the Cyberwhite or Blazertech lights because theyre sold at Walmart is foolish and naive...

I have fully parused Wal-Mart's selection of fine lighting. They leave something to be desired. The stock pencil beams that Blazer makes for Camaro's are pretty sturdy too! However, between PIAA's and Those Blazertech's, one does not need to be a rocket scientist to choose which one they'd rather have, if money were no object of course.

Point was, PIAA makes other style lamps than the particular one I chose as mine that I'd recommend over Blazer's. I was just showing what it looked like as it's hard to see it's detail when it's on at full blast.

I'm sure if you provided me the measurements, I could go find two or three choices that'd fit like a glove and even retain the "stock" look while performing 100x better.

But for those of us that money IS an object, I challenge anyone, you included, to find me a pair of replacement driving or fog lights that appear near stock in a Trans Am, that can be installed without any modifications to the car, are 100 times better than stock (your claim), and cost $39.99 (WalMart lights).

well money is definetly an object for me.. I dont know if I would want to spend 4 times for piaa foglights (or anything in that range at least).. But let me tell you this, CMNTMXR57's fogs look awesome.

Can you Blazertech guys actually drive at night with just those fogs on?!?! Its very hard for me to believe so because of how shitty the stock ones are (I cant even tell if mine are on or off sitting at the driver seat.. literally..NO JOKE!)

Do these blazertech 3200s come with the same bulbs, part number... etc that I would need for my transam? :

http://www.pfyc.com/store/merchant.m...ory_Code=GPEXT

Does anyone have pics of the blazertechs taken from the driver seat? I wanna see how they light up the ground. (hope they are not bright enough to make the stock headlights look stupid but I doubt that)..

Mike, Money is just as much a consideration to me as it is too you. It seems as though you aren't hurting either! Seems as though you have a lot of engine work coming up. The same amount of engine work I did to mine nearly 5 years ago. So naturally I have payed a lot of my cost off for those engine parts.

Conversely, you seem to have spent a HECK of a lot more on audio equipment than I have! Why? Cause you have more money? I doubt that's the case here! Most likely that's because that's what was more important to spend your money on. For me, one who rarely even has his Monsoon system on anyway because I'm listening to my 600hp soundtrack under the hood, I pulled out all the stops on my driving lights instead!

Take it with a grain salt. I'm simply telling you, I got what I paid for, just as you did with your stereo equipment. I don't think the Wal-Mart/Blazertech lights are worth the $39.99 to replace Blazertech stockers!

Okay, let's put this to a test. I have a T/A that I want to upgrade the fog lights on. CMNTMXR57 is a friend of mine and I have seen his lights in the daylight. They show up very nice even then. This is the look I want, but I don't really want to spend that cash right now. I would like to consider the Blazertech's but want to see a pic of them in the daylight. Can both of you take some daytime pics and post them for me, say 20 feet in front of your cars. I only ask so that I can make my own decision as to the ones to buy for me.

Thanks
