i believe so. I have the Ultra Z hood (see sig below) My father-in-law used to work at SLP, and said the SS and Ultra Z are fully functional (as long as you have the right air intake for the SS.) The Ultra Z snugs up right to your stock air box. They say 15 rwhp, but I don't think it's that much. I guess you would have to dyno it and see.

It can affect your E.T if the hood is functional. If the hood is functional it will be forcing air in the air box which in turn means more power. It wont give you a feeling of power but it will be there in the higher RPM's. It's not going to cut off like 5 or 6 tenths but the more air you have going or pushing in the motor will increase horspower.

what do u mean by having the right air intake for the SS? don't all SS come with right air intake? if they don't that means that the stock SS hood is not functional !! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />
i'd love to hear further explaination.

thanx..

The stock SS hood has no ram-air effect at all. All it is good for is a cold air induction. That's because the incoming air has to travel through all sorts of channels before it gets to the intake. By the time it gets there, it is not moving fast enough to give a ram-air effect.

The Ultra-Z hood is different in that the only thing blocking the air from directly going into the intake is the rain blocker inside the scoop. However, when this is removed, air can travel much better into the engine.

So, when the Ultra-Z hood is modified and sealed into the intake, it will be a true ram air setup and will net HP gains because of this.

BigBlackZ28 and MOBE are absolutely correct. My bad. SS, cold air. Ultra Z, forced. The only reason I went with the after market hood is, I needed a hood, mine was totaled and I got one hell of a deal on it. It does look nice though.

Is it true that the function of cold air on the SS gives more HP than the forced air on the ultra Z..?
