I've stored my trans am outside for the past two winters without much of a problem. I live in Pennsylvania so we get decent snow storms. I park in a gravel driveway so the first thing i do is lay down a heavy duty tarp big enough to cover the entire surface area of the car. I place a few containers of moth ***** underneath the car. Usually behind each wheel to keep stray cats and mice from making my car into a winter hangout.
If you're worried about moisture, look into Damp Rid. I place one inside the car and one inside the engine bay to soak up any of the moisture it can. Now when it comes to car covers you basically get what you pay for. I went with a covercraft heavy duty all weather cover. I tie it down at 3 points, run a cable between both sets of tires and one underneath the doors. As long as the car is cleaned well before you cover it you shouldn't have any scratches, but like others said be careful of excessive wind.
