Default Interesting seat question

I need a bit of advice on how to get the seat to slide up further in my SS. My wife is 5' tall and can't reach the pedals currently. I am leaving fr basic in a few months and she will have to drive it for a while, so I need to find a fix. I have talked to 6LE and I know his brackets and seats will solve the problem, but I was wondering if there are other options? I have about $1000 to spend so I don't mind replacing the seats.

Dont replace them... just put a plate between the seat and tracks to move it forward a couple of inches...drill two sets of holes.. one for the track and one for the seat.. offset them by 4" and you will be good to go... parts can be found at Lowes or Home Depot...

Now I hadn't thought of that. How hard would that be to do? I really don't mind replacing the seats because the current seats suck as far as bolstering goes. The only thing I would miss is the fact that it is an LE so it has the 35th SS stitching.

remove the seat, separate the seat from the track, buy a piece of thick poster board and make a template of the seat bottom, then a second set 4" further forward... too easy.. You can also use 2 strips of 3/8" steel and make two skis out of them, one for each side.. use them to move the seat forward but put the new brackets between the seat track and floor board... that would probably be the easiest fix... dont go any thinner than 3/8 or the seat will bounce or flex a little... Just make sure you wrap the metal you use in something so it wont rust or stain your carpet...

Ok, I may try that. I'm not the most skilled when it comes to doing anything with a car, so I will probably make this about 100x harder then it needs to be.

here is a drawing I just did to give you an idea...make sure the second set of holes is far enough forward to get past the hump so that you can fit the head of your new bolts between the carpet and your new bracket.. I figure 4" should be sufficient but it will be up to you...

Awesome! Thank you for helping. That makes it much easier to understand. I may try that this weekend and see how it works out. I think that is the best option though, because it keeps the originiality of the seats while still solving my problem. Thank again!

What would be the best to wrap the steel with? Also, about how long of a piece of steel should I buy?

pull out your passenger seat, measure from the center of the rear stud to the center of the front stud.. make sure its as close to perfect as you can get... add 5 inches to that total... that will give you more than enough space to move your holes... you can prime and paint the brackets and/or coat them in plasti-dip...

I think you would be better off with a couple of pillows on the seats & blocks on the pedals. That will keep her from getting too close to the steering wheel. If shes in an accident & the airbags go off there could be problems. Also keeps the seat belts in a more comfortable / safer range.

I didn't think about the air bag. That could be a big problem. I don't think I am really a big fan of the pillows, but maybe some sort of pedal extension could work. If it comes down to it and I can't find an extremely safe option, I will just buy some seats from 6LE if I can get in touch with him.

Actually pillow was the wrong word, my wife is 4'10" & she uses a seat cushion that has the ties on the back to be able to tie it to a hard dining room chair or something. That's the type of pillow I was talking about. She was also telling me that if there's less than 10" between you & the steering wheel is when to be concerned about being crushed by the airbag.

I would look into pedal extentions. She would stay a safe distance from the airbag and be able to drive.

The seat cushion doesn't sound too bad, but I can already hear her complaining about it. Haha. She wants me to just buy all new seats, but I would rather spend the $1000 bucks another way I think. The pedal extenders don't seem too bad. Now that I see the order form it looks like she could be all set for right around $200-300. That may work out to be the best. It keeps her safe from the air bag and also they seem to be pretty strong, so I dont have to worry about her feet slipping.
