Cover anything you don't want getting wet with ziplocs & rubberbands, or aluminum foil, the water won't get past it.

That's what I used to do. Personally I like to get a few different sized scrub brushes and degreaser, and do it all by hand.

Custom battery cover and fuse box cover got from the guys over at EmblemPros.com. They're a sponsor.

I have used degreaser sprayed over everything and letting it sit for five minutes or so, then high pressure spray for the last three f-bodies I have owned. The other day when I did it to my 00 WS6 it ran fine for about five minutes, then it could barely idle. I had to give it a bit of gas to keep it idling. I shut it off, then restarted it. The car hunted for idle, but once it picked it up it idled perfectly. It has driven fine ever since.

Not sure what water could have got into to do that.

I say clean it by hand. I don't trust pressure washers and such. If I use any water on mine it's coming from a squirt bottle on the exact spots I want water. Other than that I use simple green and quick detailer.
