My car was literally ONE month old back in 98 when I did that..cracked it REAL good.

told my insurance a rock hit me on the highway and 100 bucks later on my comprehensive deductible I had a new windshield.

I was PISSED man, i was like what kinda car is this, never had a problem doing that with anything else I've washed, lol.

Stupid me, I'v done it twice. The first time it broke my wiper off. The second time it chipped my hood. The second time was funny kinda. I'm waiting on a new hood from SLP because mine has a crack in the side of it. One of my brothers friends girlfriends was admiring my car as I was cleaning it then all of a sudden crack, a nice chip. I was like oh-well I'll just get another one, she whispered to my brother how rich is he? If I hadnt been getting a new hood already, I would have lost it.

Most of us have done it at least once! Don't feel too bad about it! My insurance covered mine, but I had to pay the deductible- of course!

I almost did this last week. Luckily I saw the hood hit them, and
quickly put it back down. I was worried about the wipers and the
hood, didn't even think about the glass breaking! Glad I caught it
when I did!

one way to solve this is get a glasstek 4" cowl hood like mine..the wipers can't come up anymore, they are blocked from doing so by the cowl

From the 2002 Owner's Manual:

NOTICE:
Never open your hood with the wiper arms in the
“service up position” (wiper arms pulled away
from the windshield) because the hood will
deflect the wiper arms into the windshield and
may cause the windshield to crack.

Seems like an honest mistake with an expensive consequence.

Yup, I found it – page 6-43. It serves me right for thinking I was so smart I didn’t need to study the section on wiper-blade replacement.

I've almost done it myself a few times. I think we are all guilty.
