Default I hate my steering wheel.

I've searched, and it seems like maybe one guy put a c5 wheel in an f body. I can't believe with 6le, and the years of f body modifications noone has come up with an "airbagged" solution? Wasn't 6le working on something? I'd pay good money to get a c6 wheel, I hate mine. It's so big an ugly and the buttons don't work. The new scion tc has a sweet wheel. Makes me mad. Lol. Anyone don't anything different? Changed it out?

Part of me thinks that as long as the wheel fits on the column the wiring for the airbag can't be that hard. I've just never looked into it but it is on my list of things to check on and possibly do when I rebuild my entire interior.

Yea that just it. I wonder it it would. Everyday I get into my t/a. I love the interior. Black, comfy, decent looking.... Then I grab the wheel, yuck.

Yeah I hear you, but it was state of the art.....in '93. Seen someone on here put a grand prix wheel in, don't know if the airbag worked though.

The only problem with wheels from other cars is that the airbag is designed for that car so changing to a wheel+airbag from another vehicle would be a very dangerous situation if you hooked up the airbag. But like BOBS99SS said I don't like airbags they are dangerous and even more so when not in the right vehicle.

I have the momo gotham wheel for my 93 hawk. I love it, I looked around for a long time and was lucky to find a brand new one on Ebay from a retailer that had a $1.00 starting bid. I won the auction and after shipping paid $90. Killer deal.

i always like the feel of my wifes 05 nissan ultima steering wheel. Its smaller and thicker and the controls are nice on the wheel. The steering wheels on our cars belong in SEMI TRUCKS

Why would you want a Cobalt steering wheel in your Fbody? That Vette wheel needs to be thrown away entirely. Buy an aftermarket wheel.

I believe that I saw a few ads about the folks at Grant offering airbag-equipped steering wheels. If I remember correctly, the wheels may have been just for new Camaros and Mustangs, but it may be worth investigating. Good luck, dude.

I dont care for mine either but I am not willing to give up the factory look. Grant makes them for the late model cars but not ours. I know redline can make them thicker and cover them in different materials.

I have thought since they can do that; I wonder if I could "reshape" the wheels some... I would like to flatten it across the bottom some, reduce the circumfernce of the upper part of the wheel and make the hand holds a little thinker, of course make the rest of it thicker as well.

The wheel is steel underneath the leather right? I dont see why the leather couldn't be removed and then a little fab work done to the metal and then shipped off to redline for recovering....

Thoughts?

i like this idea. idk much about redline, but if the wheel can be made smaller and then have it made thick, that would be AMAZING!!!

Just a FYI - doesnt matter how you feel about air bags in case of accident, it's how your insurance feels about it - should they have to cover your medical bills.

What do you mean? Are you saying they would deny a claim?

Regardless, I think the fab work could be done fairly simply. I'll see if I can pick up a used one at the local salvage next time I am there.

Part of your insurance on your vehicle is calculated by the restraints. Airbags are assumed to be in working order. Not sure what would happen if you were in an accident and they found you had removed the bags.

Thats the main reason my brother got that wheel, he is a huge batman fan, he has a batman museum in his house lol, there just are not alot of good options for wheels in these cars,i can tell you that a smaller more sportier wheel makes all the difference in the world,as for the airbag i just dont like them, i cannot tell you how many times ive seen extra damage caused by an air bag, yes they do save lives, but in my old camaro sometimes i stare at the wheel waiting for it to blow up in my face lol,its just mo,
