Billet Grille SS Emblems? Update: INSTALLED! Search did not work out to well with this topic surprisingly.
I am taking off my SLP Grille and putting a powder coated carriage works grille on my 02. I found a SS emblem for a 69' from GMRestorationParts. The prongs look like they are going to be way to long!
Can someone either tell/show me how to shorten the prongs and fasten this to the grille or point me in the direction of a SS emblem that will work better?

I would just take a dremel or whatever is strong enough to cut the prongs in the back of the emblem. Then just secure it down with the backing plate in the back. In the past I also put a 350 emblem in the grille of my Caprice. I cut the rivets off completly with a dremel and got some 3M doublesided trim tape and cut a piece to fit the emblem. Never had an issue with it ever falling off or wanting to fall off.
So are you saying cut the prongs shorter or cut them off completely? The only issue I can see with cutting shorter is they are tapered so the speed nuts may not work. I also saw that some folks are using a 67' emblem instead of the 69' due to the angle. Is this a true statement?
Use a grinder and make a 2 parralel cuts so they will 'slide' in the grille so you can still use the prongs...I did that for mine and it worked very well. 20$ ebay grille and 35$ for the emblem! Thats cheap!

^^What he said. I got a '67 SS350 emblem and it did not have the screw on nuts. My emblem it was just a long stud and the retainers just slid on for a snug fit. I did not know the '69 emblem had threaded studs on it when I bought my emblem.

I wanted to post an update to this thread. I ended up going with a 69' RS/SS Emblem. This fits PERFECT! A standard SS emblem from a 69' will not work due to the grille angle. All I had to do to make this work was to get some larger speed nuts for the tapered studs and then cut off the excess of the stud!
I like this look a lot better than the OEM SLP Grille.

Looks real good OP.
I wonder if it would compliment the front emblem if you carried the same style emblem to the sides and the back of the car?
Don't think I've seen it done but think it would look good. I just think the factory emblems the the '69 emblems doesn't flow as well together

Thanks guys! I was a little skeptical about doing this since my car came with the SLP Grille from the factory. I always hated how water collected behind it and made it nearly impossible to dry. (had to use a blower) I may be interested in selling my SLP grille if the price is right. It only has 12k miles on it.
