Default HID Pro Help

I am looking to change out my headlights with a projector/HID kit and eventually get to my fogs. I would like them to be HID as well. My focus is a great quality product, well made and made to last. I am looking for a Whistler stock headlight, HIDs 35w/5000k. I started out not knowing much about HIDs/Projectors but have been reading and doing my research on them in the Lighting FAQ thanks to VIP1 and also TRS www.theretrofitsource.com has been a great help!

I've read where people have bought "Sonars" and retrofitted TSX projectors... is this necessary or is there an aftermatket CCFL Halo projector headlight unit out on the market yet that needs no baking in the oven, taken apart and custom fitted with new and better projectors???

Thanks for any Positive input!

each HID kit you buy contains 2 ballast and 2 bulbs, you need one kit for your lows and another kit for your fogs (which are 880 bulbs, not 9006), you don't want your "corner" light to be HID for several reasons:
1. there your turn signals and you don't do HID on things that "flash" on and off, same reason you don't put HID in your high beams.
2. your not going to find an HID bulb that would fit them anyway, only the low beam headlight is 9006.

as for brand everyone on here says to get the DDM Tuning HID kits.

Check under the lighting FAQ, there are several threads on this. https://ls1tech.com/forums/appearanc...hting-faq.html

Thank you for the info & advice! I'll take a look at the FAQ's on lighting, while also looking up DDM Tuning as well!

The absolute best way for HIDs in your camaro is good quality HID kit & with projectors.

You can put projectors in the stock housings your self. Google (the retrofit source), they sell projectors & HID kits.

You can also contact blackbird lighting solutions , a sponsor on here that can retrofit projectors for you or just get you new headlight housings with projectors in them.

I just got the BLS kit for my TA... great retro fit! Wonderful to have true HIDs! I did my fogs myself thru a Kensun kit off Amazon. Works well too, but fogs are simpler.

Will they or anybody you know custom fit red CCFL halos into them as well? I know now I'm just being picky, but to me... it looks really badass!

Ill give them a shout though! Thanks for the input!

Go with BLS. Great product, I have them in my formula. I have 55w 5000k HIDs from Morimoto. Haven't had any problems with them.

I'm thinking about going with the BLS setup, but I'd like these projectors in them...

Thought they were pretty sweet... I'd just like a pricing before I get ahead of myself... aslo, I don't know if K&T auto has quality projectors/HID kits??

To answer an earlier question.... I did 55W 6000k for low beams and 35w 10000k for my fogs. I didn't change the fogs to projectors... Just used existing 4" housings. I wanted more blue for the fogs.

Those ones with the angel eyes looks sweet.

Check out the Lighting FAQ: https://ls1tech.com/forums/appearanc...hting-faq.html

Also check out the Forums at HID Planet: http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/forum.php

Plenty of info there.

You can
1) Do your own HID projector retrofit with either aftermarket or OEM HID projectors in either the stock housings or an aftermarket set
2) Or Buy the Blackbird Lighting Solutions (BLS) headlights which already have aftermarket HID projectors retrofitted into them.

Both options are covered in the Lighting FAQ.

Why do you want those projectors instead of the Morimoto Mini-H1 projectors in the BLS headlights? To my knowledge, the Morimotor Mini-H1 projectors are better than those. If its the look you are after, you can choose a different shroud and Halo ring for the projectors in the BLS setup.

55 watt has been known to damage those projectors. They are too small to handle the extra heat. There have been cases of damaged chrome and reduced output.

The K number (Kelvin) is the Color Temperature not the Lumen output.

As for color... if you want an OEM look with the best output, stick in the 4300K - 5000K range. If you want a little more bluish-white, get 6000K. Avoid higher Kelvin ratings. The color gets bluer/purpler and the light output goes down (plus blue light is worse for night driving).

If 55w is too strong for the Morimoto projectors, than does BLS have other options for a 55w/5k setup?? I wouldn't want any damage, but do want to turn night into day!

35 watt HID in those projectors will already be a big improvement over the stock halogen bulbs.

BLS has looked into other options, but nothing to market yet.

Just to clarify, we are speaking about the MH1's and not the Hella units. The MH1's, used in the 98-02 Camaro housings, do not like the extra heat from the 50/55W kits.

To answer the OPs question, a quality 35W kit from Morimoto along with the retrofitted stock style housings will give you very good results. Remember that the HIDs will produce roughly 3X the light of a halogen lamp so while 55W is a nice boost, I'm confident you will be very satisfied with the setup we can put together for you. We can also do the CCFL or LED halos around the projector shroud as well at an additional cost.

Feel free to email or send a PM if you want a quote.

After doing very little research and thanks to bad_408_vert for referring me to Blackbird Lighting Solutions... I have a feeling that the product in which Brian @ BLS and I have come up with, is going to be just what I am looking for! I wanted a customized Whistler stock headlight unit with the best qaulity projectors (Morimoto MH1s bixenon 5.0) with red CCFL Halo's wired to an internal switch! With the convincing of VIP1 haha and studies/research that I have done, I do believe going the extra length and saving up in the long run that I will be very satisfied with this BLS 35w 5k Morimoto projector/HID setup! While also having the best made, quality piece out there! I am looking forward to doing business with Brian and will keep everyone posted with pics and updates when the headlights are installed!
