okay newbie question. For my black z28 like yours.

Is there a newbie guide, like i know **** about detailing, on what to buy and how to do it. I'm tired of swirl marks, but don't wanna **** away money on the wrong stuff, and certainly don't want to **** away time doing it wrong.

I keep hearing about this and that method and one is hazy in sunlight and one is wet as glass always.

give a n00b a break and explain, or point me in the right direction. As explicit down to the types of pads, how to, and which product to buy (not just a website). I want my black z28 to look showroom new, and it looked like the swirls above.

I got the car wash part down I got a garage so i can do it in the cool. I dont think i have experience to use any power tools without ruining the paint.

I've got a ton of good stuff like waxes (3m stage) but really don't know how to use it, and really don't know how to clay bar. if i'm gonna spend all day on this i dont want to end up with **** looking black.

1. I got the swirls bad, probably previous owner, since i only hand wash my car with the pink meguires and keep her pretty clean no car washes.
2. I want the glass joe look and hope it lasts

help a bro out. I can get a clay bar kit at pep boys, but im not sure of the order of things. (ie clay bar first, then put this type of wax/polish/whatever on).

thanks

ok here you go. Im going to tell you how i did and do this. so another way is the zaino but im going to mention other products.this is going to be basic and straight to the point... cause you have very many people that detail on an every day basis as i do, theyll chime in if they read...
heres what you need followed with links.

car wash any brand you want i would recommend either Quick N easy wash or zaino car wash.

Clay- clay magic or meguiars anything you want

a Porter cable Dual action polisher will help you take out the scratches like i did along with pads for that polisher. This Porter cable does not swirl so no need to be scared of scratching your finish.
www.premiumautocare.com

a light polish or compound to remove swirls. like meguiars Dual Action Cleaner Polish, Menzerna Intense Polish, Poorboys SSR polishes will all work with a meguiars yellow polishing pad or anyother polishing pad of your choice.

glaze- something like Clear kotes vanilla moose or 3m's imperial hand glaze are good. are used to increase depth and gloss to finish

Sealants/Waxes- are going to be your toppers, or the final product you use. i.e. sealants Wolfgang deep gloss sealant, Poorboys EXP, Meguiars 20, NXT
then liquid waxes- Clear Kotes Carnuba moose, Meguiars 26, Poorboys EX. paste waxes are like pinnacle souveran, meguiars 16, p21s or s100

so heres your steps if you have most or some of the products listed above

1. wash you have the basic know how on this...

2. clay.brand Clay Magic blue bar you can buy this at almost any auto parts store. it comes with clay lube or (QD) labeled 49 bodyshine. After your cars clean and dry spray some QD on to the surface of the vehicle in a 2"x2" section and gently rub the paint against the surface of the vehicle. you can feel and hear the clay taking off the contaminants on the paint. do this very meticulously on the whole car and take your time.. DONTS drop the clay, and press down hard on the clay, rush yourself. make sure if the clay gets real dirty get another piece. If you keep rubbing the dirty clay on the car it will scratch the car.

3. by this time your car should be contaminant free, you can feel the surface of your paint with your hand inside a ziplock and see if you feel anything. By this time you can go straight to something like menzernas IP or Meguiars DACP. With your PC set at 5.5-6 and a polishing pad work in the product -l / \ in all those directions. In a 2x2 section taking your time you can remove the spider webs. once your done with that on the whole car you can go to the next step.

4. Glazing you can apply with the PC and a finishing pad at a speed of about 3-4.

5. id go with a sealant at this point like either wolfgang apply then buff off

6.wax. at this time id go with a paste wax like souveran or p21s or s100 which will make the surface look real wet.

not seeing your finish is kinda hard telling you what to do but this is a general rundown on what id do. im not making any implications on what you should use just giving you info. keep in mind one of your statements was not spending a lot of money. well this is going to be up there once you take in the cost of a PC which is about 120 then pads about 25 then polish, glazes, waxes could be up there but its a good investment. so if you have any more questions let me know.

if your going to go the zaino route you can use your pc and any kind of Swirl mark remover with a polishing pad to remove any swirl marks you have. make sure you use a swirl mark remove that doesnt have any fillers like meguiars no 9.cause once you dawn the car most of those swirl marks will come back. Since fillers fill in what the product cant remove. then proceed to use that ever procedure the zaino requires hope that helps a bit

damn i think i have carpal tunnel from typing so much
