Default TA headlights

.
Has anyone come out with brighter headlights for the trans am's yet? I see ones for the camaro's all over the place, but they are the bulbs and we need the entire sealed beam assembly. I am not looking for the HID ones, just something somewhat brighter then the stockers (I see the ones for the foglights too, but no headlights).

There are whiter ones but they aren't necessarily brighter.

I found that the Wagner headlights that my local Napa sells were a lot brighter than the stock headlights.

Well, I modified my low beam bracket to accept a high beam light. It's not technically 'legal' but it works. You just have to adjust the aim a little lower or else you will blind everyone.

But I too would like some brighter, whiter lights without having to switch everything. I actually contacted sylvania to see if they would be offering their silverstars to fit the firebirds and the woman told me that the firebird is one of the only cars left using those bulbs, so there is such a small demand for them and they would not be offering them.

Oh well.. the search continues.

Well basically what the kit is it's an empty sealed beam housing that you can install H7 bulbs or if you really want to upgrade you can go with HID's Here's were I got mine from http://www.autooptiks.com/front.htm

Ive seen some people with the HID kits for there TAs, they end up cutting the plugs and just splice the wires. I thought about doing it but dont want to cut and splice. I just want something that plugs in

ls1rocker just pretend that your changing the current low beam bulb thats all the work that needs to be done.

01 Red WS6 yea I didn't want to cut my OEM connector so what I wound up doing was making "jumpers" with male and female connectors on each end and plugging them to the oem connector and the other side the low beam bulb

Give me a day I will take some good pics of it I'll even remove the capsule from the housing to show the back of it.

So, you'd have to order a pair of 4703s and 4701s and then the bulbs correct?

How did you modify the low beam bracket to allow the low beam brackets to accept the high beam light bulbs?

The headlights are exactly the same size. All you need to do is turn one of the connection posts on the light 90 degrees to match up with the low beam socket.

Once you look at the two you'll know exactly what I mean.

Thanks, I just around to doing this. First I lost one of my high beam bulbs but I didn't get around to replacing it. Then I lost one of the low beam bulbs. Time to act! I like to replace headlight bulbs in pairs, figuring that they have had equal use and if one has died then the other will die soon too. So I bought 4 high beam bulbs and bent the connection posts on two of them so that they'd fit into the sockets at the end of the wiring harnesses for the low beam bulbs.

I looked at my old bulbs carefully. Although they are sealed, they had water in them! One had a few drops plus condensation while the other only had condensation.

Time to do some night driving...!

My Firebird is still under the 3 year / 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty and I thought about bringing the car in for this - but I chose not to because I guessed the Sylvania or Wagner aftermarket headlights might be slightly higher quality and less likely to do this. Time will tell.

By the way before my Firebird I had a first generation Saturn SC2 with pop-up headlights. I put over 150,000 miles on that car and not once did I have an issue with water inside the headlights. Also the headlight switch on the dashboard of that car had an neat extra setting compared to the headlight switch on the Firebird:
  1. Off (and closed)
  2. Open
  3. Parking lights
  4. Headlights
So I could move the headlight switch from "off" to "open" and do a "flash-to-pass" which would open the headlight doors. Great feature for cleaning the headlights and warning others in the opposite about speed traps. Bummer we don't have "flash-to-pass" or that "open" setting between "off" and "parking lights" on our Firebirds.

Sylvania does not make SilverStar headlights for the 4th gen Firebird. Unless you are interested in an upgrade, just take advantage of the warranty. I've been through at least 4 headlights (water inside) and 3 radio headunits (display dies).

1. Turn the **** all the way to "ON"
2. Turn the **** back to "Parking Lights"

They stay open but off.
Parking lights and fog lights (if they are switched on) will be on though.
