Polishing aluminum wheels

I want to paint the centers of those wheels black, polish the lip and clear the whole wheel. If I polish the outer lip, will the clear adhere to it? I have special "paint for aluminum" from an automotive supply house.

Clearcoating will adhere to the polished lip. Just be sure the lips are completely free of any grease, wax, etc.
