Interest in new cheaper TARGA alternative...

I've been tossing around this idea for years and kind of want to do it just for the heck of it.
It would be a kit that would allow you to cut out the stock, heavy, center t-bar section.
We would have two replacement metal panels (with holes to tack weld in or just use screws as the holes would be recessed so the screws would be flush and look finished) that would go where you cut the t-bar out (so that it would look like a finished channeled targa roof).
Then one cut on each side of your factory weather stripping and it would reapply as a targa weatherstripping.
Next you would remove your t-top center bracket from the bar you removed and you would screw it into a new center bracket that we supply.
This new bracket would only be as wide as the center bracket itself. It would latch into the metal panels we're supplying.
SO, long story short, when finished, your car would look like a normal car with your t-tops on, then when you want to cruise, you take your t-tops off like normal, and then also unlatch this center piece, store it in the back, and your car would look like any other targa car with the top off.
This is the only viable means I have found to being able to have a "clear" roof when installed and full targa when removed.
Thoughts? No idea on pricing yet, need a car to try it on, just seeing if it sounds interesting. Would drop about 20lbs off the car. Obviously you'd need subframe connectors though.

Just subframes. Despite the ridiculously long arguments about structural integrity it was proven on Whistler's car in 2001 (I was there) that all you need is SFCs and you're better than a stock car with a full hardtop let alone t-top car. Windshield is fine as well as the a-pillars are same as on a convertible. Tested it with 300lbs and a micrometer, it doesn't move.

I have read the description a couple of times now and forgive me if i missed this but, what about the headliner? I am guessing that the one currently on the car would have to cut up and reworked or is there already a product out there?

You would have to cut yours up and rework it. It shouldn't be too hard to do and you could probably get an upholstery shop to do it for you if you didn't feel comfortable doing it yourself. If I know you though, you'll just bring it by my house and have me do it for you, haha!

What I'm interested in as dumb as is sounds is a targa top that goes over the top of the ttop bar. I want to paint my sail panel body color and wrap the "fake targa" in carbon fiber vinyl.
