Default Oh deer. Is it totaled? Possible start to a build thread?

I guess bad luck has been going around this forum as I keep seeing these threads pop up. I had a 10 point buck run into the side of my Z28 late last night. Before anyone asks, a guy with a pickup immediately loaded it up and took it haha. The damage is looking like front bumper, hood, driver side fender, door, rear view mirror and possibly headlight but unlikely. Airbags did not deploy. The worst part...

I bought this car while deployed and picked it up when I got back a couple of weeks ago. I've literally had the car in my possession all of one week. It is in completely mint condition. I planned on washing it and starting a build thread later today on here. I bought it with 8100 miles for $14k and it is currently at ~9400.

I'm hoping it's value will be great enough due to its mileage to keep it from being totaled but am fearing the worst. F-body parts are cheap which is another positive but don't know if these points will be enough. I'm highly doubtful there's any frame damage but will inspect it in the daylight today. Unfortunately, I don't have any good before pics because I was holding out for said photoshoot but will include a few to appease the masses. What does everyone think?

TL;DR Buy low mileage Z28 while overseas, have it for a week, get hit by deer

It doesn't look that bad from the pics.with that low of miles I would fix it and then get a hunting licence and kill that bucks hole family, good luck with your car

That is definately not going to warrant a total. I just went through this with a very minor collision in my 2000 SS. Im with progressive, so not sure how your insurance will go about things. Given the age of the car, progressive will only use a new OEM part if a used part is not available. Much to my surprise, all the front end parts were still offered new from GM, including the headlights. The front fender is cheap even as new OEM part. OEM doors and hoods are everywhere used. I think you will make out and then some. The windshield is also not as costly as you may think. The bags not popping really saved you.

Sucks to hear it happened though, especially to such a low mile car. You may want to go the route of insuring your car off of an appraisal, just so you don't come out a loser should an event ever occur to where it was totaled. If someone hit you and totaled it, I promise you wouldn't get anywhere close to $14K back out it. My insurance offers that option for older cars so I am assuming others do as well.

Yea, I definitely want it fixed. No frame damage, merely cosmetic. Needs fender liner and headlight as well.

Hoping to get a VFN fiberglass stock style flat hood out of the deal though I have to wait and see. I planned on getting one in the long run anyway. Guess you can call me boring but I like the plain looks of a Z28. *shrug*

This sounds promising and is what I'm hoping for. I really hope to make out with a fiberglass hood but too soon to tell. The car came with crank windows but the previous owner swapped to power ones and left a tiny hole where the crank window used to be. I have crank window assemblies, door delete panels and crank handles so hopefully I can have them swap them in and save me the trouble as well.

I have my head up through this whole situation since there was nothing I could have done to prevent it. My buddy and I didn't even see it until it was too late. I am absolutely dead set on getting it fixed. From a value stand point with the appraiser on AutoTrader's nationwide search for 2002 V8 6-speed Camaro with under 15k miles the cheapest one is $18.5k. Mine is immaculate, drives like a brand new car. I'll update the thread tomorrow when I find out more. Thanks for the replies.

I agree! I like the old saying "anything can be an SS but only one can be a Z28"

You can find oem z28 hood , fender and windshield for $200 if you hunt around.

I 'd definitely start looking at different hoods though lol

I seriously doubt it is totaled, especially with the low miles. Time to upgrade!

Doesn't look totaled, just needs a fender, "SS" or cowl hood lol and a windshield.

The deer died and the guy behind me loaded up in his truck and drove off. Parts needed are: fender, fender liner, headlight (inner housing is cracked), hood, door, windshield and rear view mirror. Supposed to get with the adjuster today if they would ever call back or answer their phone. I plan to get a VFN hood.

Ouch. Doesn't look terrible tho, not a bad repair to do. Not hitting your rear quarter is a huge plus.

Non-power mirrors?

Correct. It's a true stripper car, only option is the Monsoon. As stated earlier, previous owner swapped in power windows but I have all parts necessary to swap back to crank and since my car needs a door I'm hoping I can work something out with a body shop to just swap them on both doors saving me the trouble. Try and make the most out of the situation, all you can do really.

Two things:
Very sorry to see you got into an accident.
Second go Sunoco hood...I'm just saying.

To bad you don't live near me. I have a hood that I can't get rid of and it's in good shape. Good luck.

Update:

Car is not totaled. However it is so close to the threshold of being totaled I won't be able to score a new hood out of the deal. The mileage and condition were my saving grace as I expected. The body shop guy said he had a double take when he saw the mileage.

The accident happened on December 14th and I had been hashing out some issues with my insurance company until they finally agreed to take care of it, hence the long wait with no updates. There was more damage than expected but it's all cosmetic so upon getting fixed it will be in better condition than before.

Anyway, I appreciate all of the positive replies here and will start a separate build thread for the car when I get it back!
