Default Re-Engine Bay

I pulled my motor to clean it up a bit and was wondering if anyone has painted their engine bay? What type of paint was used? Like high temp or was a clear used? Wanting to do this before I install the motor this weekend. I was also doing the cruise control relocation and the wiring harness on the left hand side. Let me know if there are any methods that have worked. I would like for it to last like 5 years before I can notice a difference. Thanks

Also, is there a way to get the decal on the drivers side (5.7 yadda yadda bar code) off or have one made? I tried steaming it but no luck. Thanks

All kinds of methods i put cruise behind pcm (and filled area) and flipped fuses and put in hole below it,i also used rattle cans with engine in.to keep from cracking weld seams/holes. biggest thing is be patient don't rush.also try hair dryer to remove decals or emblempros makes stainless ones (like mine)

Regular Automotive paint and clear here. As stated, take your time. I had someone spray mine while the motor was out. I can't take credit.

THANKS! I filled it using a cheap wire welder also got rid off ground hump just a bit above that cruise area also filled in valley on top of drivers side fenderwell that would always collect water when washing (think where lt1 fuel lines would come thru) also welded/filled in all stamped/layered areas and that pic is from this last summer which makes 3 years old since done. I stayed with dupli color from primer to clear to ensure they worked together and make sure yo use a primer/sealer before laying on paint it keeps paint looking uniform. GOOD LUCK !!!

I have about $100-$150 in my bay. I bought some napa paint/clear/hardener reducer. bought a $15 harbor freight HVLP gun along with their air filter and regulator and went to town. i degreased everything twice, scuffed up the original paint/primered bare metal areas and sprayed. first time ever using a paint gun. came out ok i think.

i also did some experimenting with some metal flake on my cold side

Here's mine. Need to make a few covers still. I used high temp gloss black from rattle can. Wanted more of a semi gloss look.

01bad bird? what did you use to cover up your ECM?
allout06? did you also use the black w/ flake to paint your windshield washer res?
Now you just have to get the outside looking like the inside.
streetlegal you also filled in the traction control hump and the part behind it where the two grounding points are. Damn it. should have asked sooner before I started mine. I will try to get some pics of how mine turned out. I did it outside so bare with me.

I actually bought some Roth metal flake, .004 (IIRC) size. I mixed about a tablespoons worth into my clear. i actually used regular clear for a first coat, clear with metal flake for the second, then regular clear for a third. And yes, i sprayed my washer tank too

Yep I wanted it to be symmetrical I also filled in the divot on the drivers side outer portion of the strut tower. Hard to describe the area ha. I can post some pictures of the process if you want some.
