Default Tearing Out Interior Carpet

So I've been thinking about tearing out my interior carpet... I was going to leave the front part of my carpet alone though & just cut from the back of driver/passenger seats to the trunk out. Has anyone else done this? How much weight did you save? I kind of want to put my car on a diet. Already removed all the rear seats, spare tire etc & will plan on getting lighter front seats as well but was wondering if its even worth removing the back carpet..

Thanks

I took off all the backing and my stock carpet was still heavy. I wouldn't do what you're suggesting Brandon unless you don't mind never listening to your stereo again and like a lot of road noise.

Speed Inc's carpet is only 11-12 lbs.

If you do what you are asking about I'd at least Ozite the back half so it doesn't look like absolute ****.

I wouldn't dare do that, not on something driven ANYWHERE else other then race events. If you street drive at all you will hate yourself for removing it.

I removed the entire carper when I sound deadened my car, and it wasn't heavy at all. I would guesstimate it at at around 20lbs max. I suggest looking elsewhere for weight reduction.

If you are that concerned about 25lbs probably, I would suggest diet and nutrition or just drive with less fuel in the tank as 1 gallon is roughly 6.1lbs. It would resonate the road noise horribly if you drove it daily, to the point where you might as well remove the stereo as well..

My stock carpet weighed in at 41lbs +/-, 28lbs with the backing/insulation removed FWIW.

what adds weight is sound deadener. The carpet itself is pretty light.

It is such a minimal static weight loss that its just not worth the roaring road noise and hearing all the rocks hit the bottom of the car. Now if your talking 20 or so lbs of rotational weight, then thats a different story I've been through the whole gutted interior daily street car phase a few times over, never again. You trade off too much for what amounts to basically hundredths of a sec.

Yep, thats what mine weighed roughly. Its the sound deadener that adds to it. I'd keep the carpet in also. Shave some weight elsewhere on the car

One thing about removing the carpet, besides what others have said, is that its weight is distributed over the length of the car (For the most part). Its not like you're removing 40lbs off the front end directly, or getting new wheels that knock off that kind of weight.
For the amount of weight lost, its not worth it.

For sure thanks. I have been thinking about getting rid of the A/C since I never use it & just drive around with my windows down haha since of my tint. But what all did you take out to save weight?

Just take out everything that doesn't need to be there anymore. Read those threads and decide for yourself how far you want to take it.

I removed all of the jute padding on my stock carpet and it saved almost 16 lbs, and I don't mind the little excess noise at all. I don't have any sound deadening material left in my car at all. The rubber backed padding on the firewall also has some weight to it, 6-10 lbs IIRC
