How to remove side view mirrors
1) Tilt the mirror all the down so you can see in between the mirror and the pod. Use a flashlight to look through the gap. You can pull the mirror further out by hand another 1/4" or so to see better.
2) Using a large flat blade screw driver, insert it behind the small steel pivot cross (See pictures) and TWIST the screwdriver to pop the pivot shafts from the plastic fingers on the adjuster motor housing.
3) Pull the mirror away from the pod working the treaded studs out of the motor. It will pop and snap as this is done but that is OK it is designed to do that.
To reinstall the mirror, push the treaded studs back into their respective holes (more snapping and popping) until the steel cross is against the pivot fingers. Placing a hand flat on the mirror and your other hand on the outside of the pod, push hard and the cross will SNAP back into place.
The attached pictures are worth a bunch of words. Hope this helps some people.
I greased up the threads and their ball sockets, and the pivot joints while it was apart in an attempt to reduce the mirror wobbling. It helped a bit, but it is still fairly loose. I even added a wrap of electrical tape around the cross shafts that attach to the mirror to take some play out of those pivots. The frame was attached securely inside the pod. The adjuster motor tabs that engage the threaded stud did not have any play when inserting a 6 mm bolt into them. It may just be the ball-and-socket joint where the two threaded studs connect to the mirror backing plate.
