Default How to replace carpet in a 4th Gen Fbody

I purchased a 99 Z28 and the carpet is new but VERY loose in some places and its very annoying. I want to know how hard is it to either realign the carpet or replace it altogether, who should I go with? stockinteriors? classic industries? year one?

Also the driver's seat is sitting too close to the door, every time you close the door it hits the seat controls... how can this be fixed?

to replace the carpet u need to take out seats, cen console, rear panels that have the speakers in them and the kick panels and seat belts. not hard to do but time consuming. hopefuly someone did not line it up and will save u from having to get new carpet.

Any tips on getting it aligned properly? Also how do you remove the center console?

Center console has 2 bolts under where the hvac controls are. There are a couple inside the storage area under the armrest. The shifter section just snaps on and off, and there are two more bolts under that. The shifter **** needs to be removed as we'll.

After that you need to remove the a pillar covers. These have two screws visible when the t tops are off. Then they just snap on and off.

Next, take off the kick panel covers. Theses have screws that run along the door sills.

After that, take out the sail panels. These come out by first removing the hanger mounts as they hold it in. Use a screw driver - flat blade, and pry out the square section. The rest of the panel pops off.

Next, take the rear speaker panels off. They are just held on by the obvious screws on top.

Seats and belts are last. Fronts have 4 nuts each, and the rears (lower bucket) are held in by a single bolt (13mm I think) that is right below the lower half of the seat.

Belts are a t-47 torx bit.

Carpet install is straight forward if you get a good one. Hint is let the new carpet lay out for a couple of days before you install.

Good luck.

Sounds like a fun job. With the carpet itself how exactly should it seal given mine isn't even sitting right I can't tell where it's supposed to line up. Given mine has alot of loose spots and lumps in it, is it worth trying to salvage it or just replace it? Is a heatgun necessary to do this Job?

It's actually fairly easy. I bought an ebony interior out of a lower mile trans am to replace the gray interior my camaro came with. The carpet should lay right into place.

No need for a heat gun at all. The carpet is held in place by all the things you take out. So the trim, seats, seat belts, etc.

If you can find a good factory salvage carpet do that. Maybe someone parting out a good one. It is going to fit the best. But the aftermarket ones should be fairly up to par as well these days.
