Default Storing car for winter

This may be a stupid question, but I was wondering how many of you store your cars just under a carport vs carport with car cover. I have a 2002 Camaro that I bought as a project car, i.e. not my daily driver. The paint is in amazing condition and, with winter coming up, I want to keep it that way. Right now I keep it under a carport with plans to move into a place with a garage this summer. I live in MO. Weather is pretty variable, we get about 1 good ice storm and a couple good snows per year, but otherwise winters are relatively mild. I don't plan to drive in ice or snow, but will likely have the car out most weekends that are nice enough. Do you think the carport is ok on its own or should I get a car cover. Would you recommend getting a car cover as well?

TL;DR carport vs carport + SLP car cover for winter?

I would recommend getting a good quality outdoor car cover. The problem with a carport in winter is it could collapse and damage your car if you got alot of snow. I have seen it happen before.

I only cover my car for the winter because its in the garage, if it were outside in a carport I would not keep the cover on it. I'd be afraid the wind would move the cover around and chafe the paint. If you are not driving it and its under the carport then IMO you don't need a cover. Just be careful what its parked on i.e. gravel, dirt...the moisture can cause rust underneath.

We keep my son's Mustang GT Vert in a carport at the end of our driveway on a patch of gravel, but we put down a tarp first and rolled both back and front doors on carport up when its not raining so it breathes.

Get a quality outdoor car cover. My car will be outside for the winter and it has already rained heavy and it has gotten very cold a few times and it has not been wet or got any frost/dew on it. I have found no new scratches or swirls either. The car cover is the Autobody Armor by Coverking, very expensive but well worth it so far. Fits perfect and doesn't move in the wind.
