Default Tail light sockets

I bought some new tail lights for my car and now that I'm about to install them, I discovered that my current tail light socket (the outer one) will not fit into the new tail light. Where can I find the connector to splice to make it fit into the new tail lights?

Or am I better off boring my new tail lights to match my current tail light set up?

Here's a picture to illustrate what I'm referring to:

I don't know what you're asking really. Just buy the correct bulb and socket and splice it back in.

This should be the part number if you have 98-02 Firebird tail lights (I'm assuming from the picture.) 15305803

Just the socket and thank you! The tail lights in the picture are the grid pattern ones.

If it was my car, I'd make the tail light hole match the 3157 socket you already have on your harness. Reason being is then all 3 tail lights will operate as brake lights and running lights.

But if you wanted to put a new socket on and not mess with your tails, you need a 194 socket. Try a parts store.

well you know, it wouldn't be an issue if not for the FACT I fully explained BOTH of his options and the REASON why his tail light is like this to start with in this thread https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-m...lb-socket.html the same day he created this one, like as if there was going to be a DIFFERENT answer.

also anyone telling him he can just get a 194 socket from teh parts store is forgetting to mention he will have to ID which of the 3 wires on the 3157 is the ground, positive for parking and positive for brake/turn so he can cap off the brake/turn positive wire so it won't short against anything since he can't use that wire in the 194 socket wiring, all things I explained in the OTHER thread.

He was asking if he should get another socket or grind out the one he had.....he didn't ask how to rewire it. He also said he was splicing into it, not replacing it so he would not have to "cap off" the wire not used. Sounds like you want him to use a wire nut which not definitely the right way to do it. This is a car, not a house. What if it falls off on a pot hole and shorts?

How about pics of the current socket and wiring to smooth out all this confusion?

he was asking if he could REPLACE a 3157 socket with a 194 socket or if he should grind out the new light to take the 3157 socket on the car, this is WHY if you READ my answers in the FIRST thread I explain how to switch to a 194 socket he would NEED to trace and remove the splice that was added to create the wiring needed to use the 3157 socket that is on the car and remove that wire. of course all this is assuming it is a firebird or other car that has had this conversion done by a previous owner.

my first and foremost concern was to establish what model the car is so as to confirm WHATS BEEN DONE BEFORE we advise him on how to change it.

That was not HIS question.

well then what was it? because thats what it sounds like when I read the question he has posted in 2 different threads. In fact in the other thread he specifically says can he wire a 194 socket in place of the socket that is there and being that the socket that is there is most likely a 3157 based on what he has shared with us, then that is what he is asking, can he replace the 3157 with a 194 or maybe I'm just completely missing something?
