You can get 4 vette wheels for that price, but its nice to keep 17". I don't mind vette wheels, but I'd love to keep my non chrome sportlines.

^I get your point but I think they are overplayed and corny. OP has an awesome setup that was extremely affordable. I had vette wheels on my Camaro but I was also 16 and broke. I would maybe consider it on another Camaro but I wouldn't dare put them on a Bird. I won't even tell you what my wheels cost each and I got them at a pretty good discount.

When I had no tires mounted I did kick around the idea of powdercoating them white. I tried Plasti-Dipping one wheel since I had a can of white laying around and it actually looked good. But I think I'd grow tired of the white, where as polished is classic and never go wrong with (for the most part).

To test if they're cleared or bare aluminum just clean them up with some soap and water. Then take a very small amount of polish and rub it in just slightly. If they're bare aluminum your cloth will get black almost immediately. If the cloth is clean, they're clear coated.

Awesome, I'll try this next time I wash the car. Probably this weekend with the rain headed our way. Thanks for the tip!

No problem. You could probably even just rub your hand on them a bit and get the same effect. If you've ever worked with an aluminum ladder you might notice your hands were a little grey and smelled like metal afterwards, it's the same aluminum oxide.

Yeah, but you're the only one that assumed anything.

You assumed it was by hand, I assumed it was by car wash. Your assumption about my original comment assumed that I meant a machine car wash and not a local business that washes cars by hand and perhaps has done a poor job in the past. Tomato tomato.

WHen i first got mine widened to 17x11 (see thread here) I used 1.25" spacers. I took it to atco for private track rental and zero issues abusing the car on 315 DR's all day. So I really wouldn't worry about running those types of spacers.
Since them, i've changed the spacers to 1.0" to tuck them wheels in a tad more. No banging even with strano springs. hope that helps

Figured I'd give a little bit of an update. I've since gone from 1.25" adapters to 1" adapters and other than a little TLC (like VERY little) with a hammer that's all that was required. No hitting BMR springs. I'm running the heater hose mod, but will be going back to isolator pad....sits a little too close to fender visually. That 1/4" made a HUGE difference in the overall appearance with tucking them up more.

I also have APR studs with 3/8" spacers that'll get tapped in his weekend and installed. Should be just about perfect IMO, though how it rolls right now is way better than expected.

I haven't tried to test for clear coat, requardless I plan to pull wheels off this weekend and use stripper on all 4.

Installed the new 3/8" longer studs and 3/8" spacers on the front as well as swapped to the 1" adapters on the rears. Seems the clear coat was already removed on them, but the previous owner of these wheels apparently painted (or something) the barrels and also had some black paint inside the lug holes. So I used some aircraft paint remover on the entire wheel and semi-polished them out with some Blue Magic (per blueday's suggestion) and a PowerBall. I need to go back and polish them again after I get the PowerBall cleaned, it was almost solid black.

I need some better pictures, just snapped these with my phone real quick yesterday while I was thinking about it.
