Is ebony black or what

Is ebony black or what Have any of you guys noticed when you order ebony items like carpets for the 2002 models that they come in charcoal gray. I have had this happen a few times in the past. Ebony is black right? I have a feeling they try to make a color that all models 93-2002 can use.

Ebony is not true black, it's actually a very dark charcoal color, although some folks seem to mistakenly think otherwise. My '71 Nova has a true black interior, and it's a few shades darker than the "Ebony" interior that my '00 and '02 F-bodies had.
Not sure what model you have, but if you have a Camaro you can look at various switches (such as steering wheel controls, window switches, etc.) to see the difference between true black and the very dark gray color that most other components (such as seats, carpet, door panels, console, etc.) actually are.

As RPM said, ebony is very close to black, but not quite. Sometimes thats the only options vendors carry, but if they offer both ebony or black, then black will be a true black, while ebony still has some charcoal strands in it. I wouldnt be surprised if some places confuse them and sell ebony as black though.
