Please help: Painted intake manifold. Hello long story short...so i got a good deal on an LS6 intake with ported throttle body for my Trans am. The manifold was painted in the past and the paint looks like crap. Im not sure what kind of paint they used but it is thick and i need some ideas on how to effectively remove the paint off the intake manifold without damaging the manifold. I've tried aircraft paint remover can sold at pepboys and its barely doing anything. Do any of you have any ideas on what i can use to get this paint off? I found online searching google that dot3 brake fluid may work, but im not sure about that. Thanks!
Brake fluid doesn't do jack to a thick paint job on an intake. I tried, barely any came off after several iterations. I'd suggest sticking with the aircraft remover or sand blast, carefully (obviously). If all else fails, give it a good once over with some 240 grit and paint it again, using a nice filler primer.
The aircraft stripper works great if used correctly. Put it on thick and only brush in one direction. Give it time to soften the paint. Can cover with plastic to keep heat in and repeat. Aircraft stripper doesn't work well in cold weather.
