Advice on installing door panel inserts!

Advice on installing door panel inserts! To the point of melting or cutting off the plastic tabs holding the cardboard on. I was going to use a heat gun to melt them, but the cardboard got hot, way before they melted. I didnt want to burn or ruin the cardboard.
Would a solder iron be a better way, or just cut them off?
Of course, I'll need to way to re-install them after the fact too.
Any tips?

For a Firebird....
Removal:
Trim the tabs with knife or snips. Only trim the minimum needed at the edge of each tab.
Re-Attach:
The bigger /rounder tabs in the center are hollow. You can drill a hole in the middle of the round tab and use a screw and washer to re-attach the panel. The edge ones, you can use plastic epoxy on the heads to reattach the panel. For some around the edge, you can put a thin screw sideways through the tab that sticks up to help hold it all in place.
I used a combination of epoxy and screws.
I don't have a pic of inside the door, but there is what it looks like on the outside.
