Default Sun Visor replacement

On a 2001 Pontiac Trans Am can you just replace your sun visors only and leave the brackets in place? I bought new sun visors and it's only the sun visors, my brackets are still good. I've searched everywhere and can only find post's about deleting the visors or replacing the whole thing brackets included. I was hoping I can just slide the old ones off the bracket and install my new ones back onto the bracket, don't want to be out there pulling on the old sun visors until I break something!

A few places I have seen only sell the visor, not the bracket. They are supposed to slide right on (after cutting a small hole to help get them started). The last owner of my car broke off the brackets and left the springs and ends in the headliner! I had to get the brackets and the easiest way was as an assembly. I'm sure you can find something on YouTube about installing with existing brackets?

Default Replacement sun visors

Thanks jybravo70, the new replacement sun visors are installed. I pulled the old ones off with the brackets in place and reinstalled the new ones. The ones I bought aren’t factory correct but I hated the floppy corners. I'll try to find correct replacements later on.

New replacement sun visors

Old ones with floppy corners

Old ones

New, not the same and I’ll look for factory correct ones in the future.

New

Good deal. Not all that noticeable unless you look. You could get some interior paint and paint them if you wanted to darken them up a bit. Make sure you get the interior cloth/carpet type of paint. After painting you can use one of those interior brushes to restore the texture and softness of the fabric. If these are working for you its a cheaper solution then getting a reproduction pair.

When I replaced mine the ones I got were a little lighter than my interior BUT, both driver and passenger have mirrors. Both had the elastic cut which is why they were so cheap so removed the elastic from my broken ones and sowed them up best I could. They work which is better than nothing on the afternoon commutes. These are temporary as the corners are weak but for what I got them for it was a good price seeing I had to replace both hinges.

I see you can get replacement synthetic slip on covers on ebay but not sure of fit and finish.

I just tried out these ebay slip covers visors. Bottom line is 'not bad' for $25 with new ones going way over $100. I did a short youtube video here:

Might still go with the new ones later on, just have to see how much abuse they'll get with the T tops (I just bought the car).

I did the covers as well. It's hard to justify $200 for cardboard visors that eventually will fade.

I got mine done at a local upholstery shop a while back, $20 for both but the guy said I would lose the mirrors. He removed/cut off the plastic brackets and mirrors with a knife and and did them. This was like 5 years ago, he had said for me to wait and did both in about 15 minutes.
