Difference between 96 and 97 dashes?

Difference between 96 and 97 dashes? Good afternoon, all
I have a 96 Trans Am that needs both the dash and upper dashpad replaced due to heat damage. Currently, there doesn't seem to be any decent aftermarket upper dash pads for the 96 Firebird, and a OEM looks to be unobtainable. Seeing as both my dash and dashpad need to be replaced, I was wondering if the 97+ Firebird/Camaro dash will plug and play with a 96. To my knowledge, the only major change for 97 was the color going from graphite to dark grey. I'm able to find both the dash and dash pad for a 97+ but don't want to have to do any hacking or cutting up.
Anyone ever swapped a dash from one to the other?
