I pulled a low mile ebrake lever out of a junkyard TransAm but it's covered in grime and a little rust. Obviously I want to get it cleaned up before installing but I want to hear your recommendations for cleaning products. I removed the handle and the button so it's all down to metal only. My readily available products are vinegar, gas, acetone, dish soap and other more mild soaps, brake clean and various brushes. For grease I have ceramlub that I use during clutch changes on the trans input shaft.
Welp I doused it with Simple Green and thrashed it with a toothbrush. Then went over it again with a Brillo pad. Cleaned up nice and replaced the 30 year old lube with a generous amount of ceramlub 2800. Hopefully this one doesn't rattle.
I'm not familiar with "ceramlub 2800", but for something like this my top product choice would be Sil-Glyde (this is what I use to lube contact points on drum brake assemblies, and it's also good for items such as the window regulator and guide tracks, etc.)
