RobzwickidSS:

I got 2 questions for you: First off, what kind of paint did you use a glossy or satin finish? Cause those are the best looking painted lights I have seen. And secondly how did you heat up the lights? Did you put them in the oven...for the advertised 20 min at 200 degrees? I am just a little reluctant to put my only set of headlights in the oven...ya know

I am planning of doing this mod over the weekend...8/7 so I am just looking for a few last minute pointers. Anyhelp would be great.

Thanx
Fry

You didnt paint the ribbed area! It would look 10 times better if you did. Your car kind of gives me the chills, if you put a billet grill on it it look just like mine from the front.

UH...do you mean the reflectors? because that would totally negate the purpose of headlights, they would just look like bright assed front poarch lights if you did that.

You would think that... but it actually has no effect on the light. As long as you don't paint the back area (boxed shape behind bulbs) your lights will work just as good. The back area is what helps reflect the light out... not the ribbed area's that are above and below the bulb.

Ok...I am very lost on this one. Madice, did you paint that area when you did yours. Can you explain that a little more?

Sweet.

Loose the grill, billet would be sweet, but even the plain silver behind it looks good I think.

Yes he did, you can see it in the picture in his signature. It really does not effect the light at all. You are the second person ive seen do this so dont feel bad because many think the same way about the reflectors. Im not dumb about this painted headlight mod, ive done over 10 sets for people in my area. . You know that ring that goes around the lightbulb? Well that pretty much traps the light to only reflect off the very back part on the headlight, so the ribbed area doesnt really do any reflecting painted or not.

WAIT...I think that I get it, and correct me if I am wrong. But are we talking about the roughly 1 to 1.5 inch piece that protrudes in toward the lights reflectors?

I think I can tell from comparing these two pics...am I on the right track?

Pic from another headlight mod post
Pic from above link

Stangkilr: while we are on the fact that you have done 10 of these...what is the best way to get the headlight apart...the oven at 200 for 20 minutes or a hand held heat gun?
