Question Gimme ALL the steps with the best...

I've been reading here for a few months about all the possibilities of waxes and cleaners to use on your car for the "ultimate" shine. However, there are so many conflictin viewpoints, it's hard to determine which products I should use and what steps to do them in. What are all the steps needed to get the best shine and LASTING protection, which are the best products to use for each, and where can I get them? What I've done in the past is, wash, clay bar, polish, then lasting wax... but I'm not sure how many of each to do (sometimes people suggest a couple coats of polish or wax). Any and all help is greatly appreciated, and I don't care for them to ALL be one specific brand (I've heard a lot of good about Zaino and P21S). Mixing and matching is perfectly fine for me, I just want to get it done right and make it last. Thanks guys.
