Default New Hood Question??

I just got my new Goodmark Cowl Induction hood on the other day.... Its not painted yet... I have a question about the "fabric stuff" thats on the underside of the stock hood..... Does that material need to be put on the new hood... Does that material protect the hood from heat or what.......

Yeah it just protects the hood from heat. You can run it either way. But if your going to put the insulation back on I would go to your GM dealer and buy new insulaton and clips. I would probably put it back on for good measure.

GM deleted the hood insulation on many cars, so I don't think it is a hug issue. My 81 Z I got rid of the underhood liner, and never had a problem with the paint.

Yeah it won't hurt your hood. I know you have a truck but none of the SS Camaro's have hood insulation and they run alot hotter than your truck will.

Alot of the "hood insulation" was not so much as to prevent heat from affecting the paint on the hood as it was an engine fire extinguishing measure and noise reduction measure (seriously!!)

If the engine caught on fire that stuff is supposed to melt and drop over the engine and assist in smothering the fire, the idea of the heat from the engine affecting the paint was a very, very small factor if not even a consideration. If you think about it, the hood becomes much hotter/affected from direct sunlight than it ever will from engine heat.

This insulation also supposedly helped with engine noise on many cars for that quiet luxury ride that so many were seeking in the day.
