paint gun question?
paint gun question? I'm using a typical spray (that is not HVLP)gun to paint some iron fences and need help adjusting the spray.
I believe the top **** is for air pressure and the lower **** is for volume.
When I first bought it it painted fine. I've changed colors and cleaned it and know can't get it to spray the way it did at first.
I want to have it spray a nice wet looking coat.
Currently it is spraying too lightly no matter how I adjust the *****. Is this signs of a dirty gun?

I would re-clean the gun with thinner and be sure no small dried paint particles or clearcoat anywhere on the needle or nozzle. Also if you want the coat to be wetter then you need to use less air and more paint flow. The higher the air pressure the "sandier" or dryer the paint will look and feel.

I cleaned the gun again and added a pressure regulator at the gun.
The cleaning helped, but the regulator wasn't able to adjust the pressure below 80 #'s ???
The cleaning may have helped but a little but it still appears to be "sandy" . I wonder if the regulater is the correct one. I bought this one at home depot, a huskey brand, that is supposed to adjust the air pressure from 0-max in a 1/4 turn. I can't adjust the pressure below 80psi. ???

Well it was a canister typer paint gun and I was cleaning with acetone (soaking) and cleaning with a brush. I finally bought a gravity feed HVLP gun. It has alot more control.
