What kind of prep work do you do?
Bascially this is what I do.
Once a year (since the car is not daily driven) first day of spring I wash the car with car down with Dawn dishsoap to strip all the old wax off and clay the entire car, using Zaino car wash diluted with water in a spray bottle for lubricant. I'll do small sections at a time rinsing off any residue left by the claybar. When I'm done I wash the car down with the Zaino car wash and dry it.
Then I apply a coat of Z1, let that dry then the Z5 goes on. When the Z5 dries I'll use a cheesecloth to remove the polish and a polishing cloth to buff. I do everything by hand. The more coats of Z5 the deeper the shine. Z5 is bascially a swirl mark remover and up until this point I had only been applying Z5. After reading through Zaino's site again I found that you should use Z2 once you're happy with the finish since it has higher optical properties than Z-5. I guess I'm still not happy with the finish sounds better than I missed that tip in the instructions. -lol After that initial claying & Z1 I just keep adding coats of Z5 every time I wash the car.
I use only Zaino's polish, wash, & detailer but I use other products for the wheels, tires, interior, carpet, ect. I didn't care for Zaino's leather cleaner & conditioner and found that Duragloss leather cleaner and leather conditioner (seperate products) works better, smells better, and it's available at my local auto parts store. I'm sure there's other products people are getting great results with.
I think the best prep work anyone can do is pretty simple, just keep the paint clean. I know that's easier said than done especially if you car is a daily driver but if you get mud, tar, tree sap, water spots, etc. get it off right away. I use alot of quick detailer in between washes and waxes.
Like I said no secrets here.
