It is true it only goes on one way but it is important to set the lash...many people just toss out the instructions where the specifications are...using a feeler gauge you adjust it correctly so that it shifts properly. When I bought the car it would make a grinding/whirring sound if you put any pressure on the shifter, and even though to your average person it would feel like it shifted okay, it really wasn't. After taking apart the console and readjusting it, it shifts perfect and makes zero noise. An important step often overlooked.
