Default Paint Job Prices

What did you pay for your paint job?

I went to a couple places to get a estimate and was told it would cost me 4,500 to 5,500 dollars. I have a 2001 Formula with the trans am body kit. It is black and blue right now and i wanted it painted midnight black.

Is that a reasonable price to do everything, including the door jams and the hood underside?

Seems a touch high, but if you live in or near a city that's probably about right.

That sounds pretty high. Ask around see if you or somebody you knows can hook you up. My friend would charge about 2k for the job that you are aking but would have the car out for a while. Ask around.

if this is to spray the whole car, plus door jams than it sounds about right. You might be able to get it done for about 3 grand, but remember you get what you pay for. Best thing you can do is get some examples of the shops work and take it from there.

Seams cheap to me, anyway based upon Chicago/Illinois pricing. I paid $8,000 for my complete color change, but you get what you pay for, and pricing all over the country varies greatly . . .

I agree...it seems cheap. What I would consider a "decent" paint jod would run about $5,000. You could easily double that for a show quality one-tone paint job.

Also remember that black needs to be done well because it is a very unforgiving color.

theres a guy over here in the bay area that is willing to paint my thirdgen for 1500. they will scuff the body. Sand down the hood all the way. sand down the spoiler and put a layer of fiberglass on it. ppg primer, ppg paint, ppg clear. wetsand and buff. roughly 3 layers of color and 3 layers of clear. i've seen his work and its top quality. My friend had his 59 impala painted candy tangerine with a pearl white top for 5k's ( including major bodywork on the doors and painting the dash and steering wheel). Also my friends 65 mustang got his car painted for 4500. including sanding the car down to bare metal. painting door jams, trunk, enginebay, and engine block. all used ppg products while the 59 impala used house of kolor products. For a good change of color 2 stage paint will run u about 2500-3000 depending on the condition of your car. Heres a poor quality pic of my friends 59 impala
