Default Pulling Out HVAC Controls - SAFE?

I'm swapping my HVAC controls out of my car for some Camaro ones. I see they have little nipples of sorts on the back of it. Not sure what they're for, but wanted to make sure it's safe to swap it out.

Any help is appreciated!

if anything they are just vacuum lines that aid in opening and closing the "directors" that change the air from blowing on the ground to the dash when you move the ****. nothing pressurized.

....you can milk anything with nipples ... ...

That's what I'm kinda thinking seeing how small they are (and the sound that the controls put out when you kick the a/c off), but didn't want to run into any problems if I swap 'em out. Anyone know 100%?
