Daytime Running Light Help
In the stock setup, if the dim filament turned off when the bright one came on, then it would work, but it stays on.

Maybe there is a way to make the DRL module think the lights are offall the time, even when they are actually on at night. That might work, but I don't know how to trick the module without screwing something else up. I don't think it would be worth all the trouble.
Are your DRL housing in bad shape? I know when I put new ones in, they were a lot brighter. As they get older the chrome inside gets dull and makes them not as bright. New one's run about $25.

So your best bet is to buy or make some covers to protect them, right away.If your bulb holders are rusty, Autozone carries new ones for about $6. With all new stuff, you won't have to worry about the bulbs always going out.
