Question Rear Bird Emblem

ok guys looking for some info on this one. I was on LS1.com and posted this. The rear Bird/Trans Am emblem in the middle of my tail lights is looking a little crusty. The car is 5 years old and the bird is dieing. I want to send it to the fountian of youth and bring it back to life. One of the guys on LS1.com said to use rubbing Alchohol to remove the old paint from the recessed spot and then to repaint it. So I am going to try that to remove the old paint. However what kind of paint should I get to repaint it? I am not sure if I should get a can of spray paint and some spray on clear coat and use that?

What I will probably do is once I have the old paint of is make a template of the recessed part and mask it off before painting it as to get one over spray or spater anywhere. Is spray paint the way to go on this little project? If so what kind? If not then what should I get?

Thanks for the comments

Unless if you know exactly what you are doing your "revival" will not come out the way you expect it and you will not be happy with the results of spray painting with the template. Suggestion? Remove the bird and lettering and keep it gloss black. Or find someone who has one and keep it out of the sun. The sun really makes that emblem wear out! That's just what I've heard......

From my friend's experience, if you don't want to pay money money money from the dealership by the pint/quart. Go to auto zone and by the small can of "dupli-color". He said it worked just fine. Good Luck! I think the black was midnight or sapphire black.....can't remember which...

If you want it to last, clear over it.

Use the nail polish remover to clear the paint off.
Then wet sand with 1200 & 2000 grit wet-sandpaper.
Then polish with a plastic polish to restore.

Then get a new decal from Brent if you still want one on there!
