Default Painting maf and Tb

Anyone done this? How did it turn out? Powdercoating is expensive around here.

What I did was really simple. Two coats high temp gloss black from the can, then two coats high temp clear. Well see how it holds up. So far so good.

I did my TB, red and my MAF charcoal grey. Both are done with Dupli Color HT Engine Enamel.

The MAF is easy to dissassemble. 4 torques bits, and its apart.

The TB is a little more complicated, but every thing unbolts.

I sanded all of mine smoothe removing casting marks and lettering.

Below is a so-so pic, but there are others in my album.

High temp paint isn't even needed. I used regular dupli color gloss black and clear, then I just polished the top of the tb. It's all in the prep.

I've been told that when you take the throttle shaft out the retainer washer is no good so you have to buy a new one. Is this true?

Originally I had mine Powder Coated black. But the Powder Coat didn't take to the tb very well since the tb was ported to 78mm and JB weld was used during the process of porting. So thats when I sanded it smooth and painted it. At least if the paint chips, there is black powder coat under it.

Here is a pic of mine on the car.

The spring and cam is pretty easy to shine up with some alum. polish. I used a dremel with a pad for mine. But hand polishing seemed to work almost as well.

Did you do any kind of prep? Sanding? Or did you just tape it off and spray it?

Like Andy said, some sanding to get it smooth. Its all in the prep sometimes.
