Default cobwebs

ok...I can detail a car and make it look GOOD. Real shiny and clean looking paint, but most of the time cob webs are still visible. I keep getting different answers from differnent people as to if those are suppose to completly come out or not. Some people say it looks good and that all they get while some complain that they should be completely gone.

My question is if you take a car to a detail shop, does that detail shop remove all of them from the paint or does the detail shop do what I am doing? If it comes down to money, how much does it cost for a detail shop to completely remove them?

Yes I am doing this by machine and not hand, and yes, I am reducing the amount of cobwebs that were on the paint but not always being able to completely remove them. Would the rest of them be classified under paint correction(wet sanding/heavy compound)?

Thank You for the help
Robert

Yes, please describe the term cobwebs. Do you mean paint that has been "spidered" from an impact? When I first started reading your post, I thought you literally meant your car had cobwebs as in a spider problem

i believe he means the very annoying small scratches that you only see under intense light such as flourescent, not really a swirl, more like a very fine scratch that look like spider webs/cobwebs/etc. That you pretty much only see on black/nbm/any other dark color.

you can polish them out either using a porter cable or a rotory. If you take it to a detail shop a lo t of the times your gonna get what you pay for. So if you have the $$ theyll remove them for ya cause it takes lots of time to remove them. Even then youll only get out about 90-95% of them out you wont always get all 100% out cause theres always some here and there. What kind of machine are you using?

I am using a porter cable polisher.

CJ is right. That is exactly what I am talking about. Swirl marks are not a problem, its the millions of little ones that show up in direct sunlight or florecent light.

the reason I hate to keep at them with a heavier cut product and pad is because I am afraid of removing the clear coat.

i have compounded a couple of cars before, yes. Most of the time I use a claybar, then a cleaner/polish like #83 or #80, then a pure polish, then a sealant.

*Some* paints will have a slight cobweb effect in the actual color coat. Neither my black nor red paint has any.

You're going to have to do a lot of polishing with #83 and a PC to cut through the clear.
