Default Carpet install?

Whats the best way to do it? Should the carpet just fall into place, or do you need to wet it a little to get it to mold right to the vehicle? I tried it once in a buddies car and it didn't seem to fit so well and it was supposed to be a molded carpet for the camaro.

i know this is not necessarily what you want to hear, but i have never done anything with carpet in my life, but using some common sense im thinking "why would you wet the carpet?" Alot of people take out carpet because it smells from being wet, so why would you do it intentionally?? like i said this is from common sense, not knowledge.

Not wet it like soak it but like when you use a carpet cleaner. Then lay it in and soak up any moisture with the cleaner. Just to make it more pliable. The **** is so damn stiff when it's new. I didn't mean use a hose or anything that would create mold in the carpet.

You should let it set out in the sun. It would loosen it up so its not so stiff. I've done carpet in a couple of cars and it wasn't hard at all. Just let the sun warm it up some

I always seem to have problems in the back of the vehicle around the rear seats. It never wants to settle in the dips in the floor were the rear seats go. Then it pushes the sail panels outward. Very fricking irritating! I'll try the sun thing with the next carpet and see were that goes.

HOT HOT STEAM!! Makes carpet do whatever you want....pretty much. An upolstry shop might let you borrow theirs....for some $$, or will be willing to put it in for you, cash under the table kinda thing.

The rear area is always tricky. Remember not to get the carpet bound up so it doesn't happen. Have you tried starting from the back and working to the front?

If it is factory carpet, then it is molded in to shape. Just throw it in, it's easy as hell. If it's aftermarket carpet, it's a bit trickier. I've done both.

I could look around to see if there's a place that would do it for cash. I suppose it would be worth it just to not have to deal with the frustration! I just like to learn to do it myself and not need to rely on shops to do it.

I was gonna get some light weight carpet to replace the factory stuff so I assume it will be a pain to install.

Still easy to install. But it isn't molded like the factory stuff. I just put lightweight carpet in my car. There are a lot of cuts and what not to assist in making the curves, etc.
