Default My Carbon Fiber Project

Well, it's only in the beginning stages, and this is my very first time working with carbon fiber and clear resin... the second time I've done "fiberglassing." I had two types of carbon fiber... one was a thicker piece and stronger, the other was really thin and VERY easy to screw the weave up. It definitely doesn't look professionally done, there's some bad spots in it, but for it being my first time working with carbon fiber, I'm pretty satisfied with the results thus far. So far, it's still in the drying stages, but here's some pictures:

PS - Thanks to ChevyChad for his awesome write up, and giving me the inspiration to try doing this myself.

Looks like the lid for the center console.... Since that thing is squishy wouldn't the glue come undone after some use?

haha well I did the driver and passenger side switch trim first, and after a few coats of resin I dived into the console lid. It definitely was much harder, especially since the material was so much thinner... if I would've used the weave I used on the window switch trim (seen in the first picture) it would've been really easy to wrap because it was so thick and the weave stayed in place so perfectly.

One tip that may be helpful on the thinner stuff (maybe the thicker stuff too) don't use those foam brushes. They disturb the weave very easily. Get the brushes with the bristles.

Haha, d'oh, that's what I bought. I didn't have too much of a problem with the weave at all on the thicker material, the thin stuff was different -- not too much of a problem brushing it on except on the corners and edges. Worst part is that the console lid used to be painted red, so any break in the weave is REALLY obvious.

lol well to be truthful, if I gain enough skill on this, I wouldn't mind creating a truely unique "Berger" panel.

I am too scared to try real carbon fiber on my rear panel so I decided to go with a carbon fiber decal. I put it on myself. It was pretty difficult and frustrating but I got it on. Now I'm waiting for chrome CAMARO inlays to put on and also change my red carbon fiber bowtie/Z28 to chrome too. What do you think?
