What are my options for different shift ***** for my SS? I'd prefer something in a T handle as opposed to a button on top. I drive with my hand on my shifter a lot and I don't like it resting on the button. TIA
DUDE...i saw some BADASS automatic shift ***** for the ls1 ws6 and SS they were round but they had no push button...and they were sweet...im lookin for the site right now(cant remember the name)...as soon as i find it i will let you know...im gonnna get one also

That is exactly what I have. The stock **** drove me crazy for the exact same reason. Not to mention the T/A version looks so much better. When I installed mine, I had to modify the handle a little bit. I had to drill out a little bit of plastic in the top of the handle so it would slip all the way down onto the stick. It feels and looks factory BTW.
I'm going to suggest this, but you may think I'm retarded...
Go get a shift **** from an auto newer Grand Prix. (You can get em in the knobbly rubber/vinyl stuff or leather...) It kinda feels like a bigger T56 **** with a button on the underside.
Like so... (mind you this is on a thirdgen, but I'm half tempted to toss one in my 97. The T-handles boring me again.)

I spent a good bit of money on an MBA **** and the necessary stuff to make it work, put it on, and took it off later that same day. I drive with my hand on the shifter alot also, and the factory Trans Am/Firebird "T" handle is the most comfortable **** IMO. It just works, and it doesn't look bad or anything either. Not flashy by any means, but its by far the most functional IMO.
Yeah keep us updated i keep my hand on the shifter also(wanna m6) and i havent found anything that looks decent...im not a fan of the t handle as it looks big and just doesnt fit the interior IMHO and i dont care for the rounded grand prix style..so keep us updated..
They have Stainless Steel ***** w/ designs etched into them. They look awesome. They have all sorts of colors and designs. No push button.....go for about $70 said and done. Install in two minutes. Just search Mallory industries. I think it might be www.mba.com. Not to sure though
I have the polished shift **** from MBA and I drive with my hand on the shifter as well and I am always shifting (wish it was a M6). I love this shifter. I believe that it is more comfortable than the stock t-handle.
well it aint www.mba.com ..got any other ideas for the address..i would really like to take a look at them

I'd like the Auto Shift **** from the new GTO.
But thats probably cost-prohibitive.
I was thinking about this one:
http://www.exoticwooddash.com/prod1230.aspx
"Aluminum look / black leather auto ****"
Here is the same **** with the Saturn logo:
http://www.exoticwooddash.com/prod1163.aspx
"Ion automatic ****"
I only put up that second **** so you can see the button better. The only thing I dont like about it is that the button isn't just round, it has two little "ears" sticking out of the leading edge. If you see the pics you'll see what I mean.
Another good idea for autos is a leather shift boot. I have done it one mine.
Here is a write up:

Here is the **** that Constrictor 98TA has:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...ght=shift+****

Its an Ichibahn "Cruz"

[wishful thinking]I'd like to transplant the whole new GTO interior into my car.[/wishful thinking]
EDIT:
I think there was a Buick recently with a similar ****, except the button didnt stick up and the top was slightly concave. I really liked it. I was one of the better ***** I have seen, but I dont remember the model. I think it was a 2004+ though.
EDIT:
I just looked around Buick's site and cant find it. Maybe it was an older one.

Here is the one from the new 2006 Pontiac Torrent:

(I think its an SUV, but it might be a "crossover".)
Here is the one from the 2005 Pontiac Bonneville
http://www.pontiac.com/bonneville/images/bg_image8.jpg
(I like that one. I think its still a side-button unit too.)
