Default hood quality

Hey
I was thinking about getting a ram air hood and was wondering if there is any issues with the material they are made out of. Does the paint hold well to them, and how different is one brand from another. What is the best and worst and why. Thanks

Ammerican Sports Car Design. They make the best quality aftermarket stuff. Rex is on this board as a sponsor, he'll set you up.
Oh wait! I almost forgot my chance to bash Mecham hoods! Silly me! And oh, HEY! there's that link below just lying around....

so why does the mecham hood crack like that? Is it crappy quality or installer error? what about the price difference? I see all around you can spend anywhere from 550 to 1200 on a set-up. Is there REALLY that much difference? I wasnt interested in all the vents of the mecham hood anyway, more into the subtle look of just a ws6 or firehawk hood.

Did you not notice that he has two Formulas?

Whatever you go with, just make sure to get many opinions from different people about the specific hood and company. While it doesn't mean you can't run into problems (fiberglass hoods are never 100% identical, each one will come out slightly different), you're atleast ensuring a better chance for a good fit. Also, make sure their customer service is good BEFORE ordering the hood.

Mecham cracks because it just plain sucks. The guy came up with a great design and then decided to put his brain in a slumber when going for quality. Most of those cracks showed up over time, started about a month or two after installation. And yes, depending on what hood you go with, how much they want, who you go to for painting and install will all affect the bottom line cost. Whatever you do, stay far from anything with the Mecham brand on it....

For an aftermarket ASCD or VFN. OEM cost a lot more, but is the highest quality and fit like a glove.

Yeah, my hood looks like ****. I got done waxing the car and the wax ends up in the cracks and it's hard to get out. The wax effectively highlights all the cracks in the hood, making them really eay to see on a black car. And for the money I spent on that damn thing I will happily buy all the negativity I can spare on Mecham and his fraud-shop.
