Default Big Ooops...need opinions

So, the other day I was parking in a very crowded and dark parking deck (excuses excuses I know) and I kinda scraped up against the bumper of another car when parking...sooo there is no dent, but my paint is scratched down the primer on like a one inch spot. I took it to one paint shop and they are saying $350 to repaint the entire front bumper, does this sound about right? I need to check out a couple of other places I know, but Im curious to see if anyone really knows.

Also, should I be careful with who I go with since SOM is a rare color? I don't want a crappy job that doesnt match the car.

Thanks for any help or if anyone knows a good paint/auto shop in Fairfax, Va.

Touching it up takes time and patience. It'll be a PITA to make it look like nothing ever happend (unless you're good with paint, then it wont be a big deal).

IMO, repainting the entire bumper would be my last alternative. I'd just ask them to try and color match a square thats a lil larger than the scratch. IMO, with a good painter it wont be as noticable in that small of an area vs the entire bumper.

i'd make sure you use a good painter. my uncle owns a body shop and we painted my truck SOM. well a custom mix of it but still it will have the same properties. with all the pearl in there its hard to match. i'd have the whole bumper repainted and the hood at fenders faded to match. gonna cost more but it will look better. IMO i'd do it if it was my car

I've always been under the impression that the dealership isn't always the best choice. I dunno, I've had bad experiences personally with dealerships, but I could be wrong...arent they more pricey?

In some cases, its not. There are some dealers that're great for bodywork, paint matching, collision etc. Some of them are more pricey, but others keep their costs about even with those of the local bodyshops. Its all in going in, and getting a quote. If you dont like what you hear, leave. You're under no real contractual obligation to get the work done there. If nothing else, its just another place to visit on the list to get the work done.
