Default Need advice for window tint on black Firebird

Hi everyone.

I am going to get my car tinted in the next few days. I have decided to get 20% on the front windows. The only thing I am having a difficult time deciding is if I should get 20% on the back also, or go for 5% instead. I had a 4 door Grand Am which I tinted a long time ago, and I got the same shade all the way around. Originally I put a darker shade on the back window and I didn't like it because it contrasted too much with the shade of the other 4 doors.

Do you think it would make a big difference to have 20/5 on a black firebird, or should I just do 20 all around? What do you think would look better or "cooler" ? And, is 5% going to be difficult to see out of?

Needless to say, I am quite uindecided so I need any input I can get. Thanks alot in advance

I personally would go 5% on the back because I did

No, seriously I wouldn't mind having 20/5 on mine, but tint laws in CA prohibit that, so I didn't do anything on the sides..yet. However, 20% all around seems like it would make only a little improvement for eveness among the windows. I recommend 5% in back, but it is kinda hard to see out of. I just figured I didn't care much cuz I do most of my driving in D, not R.

I would suggest using 5% only as a windshield banner. I have 2.5% on the side windows of my Hugger SS and regret it. At night it is dangorous. Yes, it looks really cool, and you cannot see in no matter how you try, but it simply is dangorous. The difference between 5% and 2.5% is almost un-noticeable. Go with the 20, it will be darker than you think it would be. You will be happy with 20%. 5% even on the back would hinder rear-view mirror views a great deal. By dangorous, I mean the only thing i can see out of my windows at night are lights... Street lights, and headlights. I cannot see people walking on sidewalks/bikes. I really only drive the car on days/nights the windows can be down or the car doesnt move. I really dont need the windows up to be driving, or i would have removed the 2.5% for 20% no question. Good luck with your decision though...

I have had 5% on all of my vehicles I have owned. And yes it is kinda hard to see out of at night. Being that nobody can see in, it makes for a great theft deturent. And I never get blinded by headlights from behind. Plus is stays way cooler in the summer. The pro's out weight the con's for me.

Ive got 5% and like RaRe said, its dangerous at night. I dont mind the 5 on the back, but I plan on getting the sides redone in 20. 5 looks awesome as hell but keep in mind that you wont be able to see anything outside of lights.

i just got my car tinted today. 32% on the sides and 22% on the back. I would definately recommend anything from 20-30 on the sides because from any distance more than about 5 meters it does look pretty dark. When you get up close you can see in pretty easily, and theres no problem seeing out.

Thanks alot everyone for all of your excellent input. I really appreciate the comments. I think I am going to get 20 all around.. after reading alot of the comments about the back window, I started to remember the back tint I had on my 1985 Trans Am. It was my first car eve, and I had it done really dark.. I think it was 5%. Now that I recall, at night time I could only see lights out the back, no actual imagery like people on the street, signs, trees, etc. But it did look nice. I think the 20 all around should be fine, as I don't want to strain myself when reverse parking or keeping abreast of what is happening behind me while driving.

Here's 20% tint:

I personally think 20% is the best all around tint to go with.

In all honesty it depends on the shop and what shade you go with. I think the guy around here will do side window's and the back hatch for $250ish, I actually need to talk with him here shortly on what it'll be to re-tint the side windows so I can let you know sometime this week on what it could be.

MY boyfriend's car has 2.5% all the way around and I hate it, I feel uncomfortable driving his car at night. I wouldn't do anything more than 15% all the way around, just my opinion.

i got 5 on the back and 30 on the sides. i love my back tint(except for the damn bubbles from the dot matrix). i wish i had darker on the sides, maybe 15 or 20. i paid around 210 for the back and sides, but i did it at the same time as my friend so they gave us a discount

Yea man, definatly do 20% all the way around. Your car is black, and its going to look good as ****. 5% on the back in my opinion would just be an inconvience. I have 20 all the way around and I think its just right appearance wise, and to look through.
