Default Which grits?

im helping a friend paint his car and wanna knw which grits would be best. i have a basic knowledge on whats needed but i wanna be as specific as possible. i doubt were gonna go to bare metal but would like to get rid of the 80's clear and most of the fucked paint and want the thing to look bitchin when its done. thanks for the help guys
PS- also if i need scuff bads or anything too.

Use 220 on an DA orbital sander. You'll spend an hour sanding the car rather than 2 days by hand. After that I sand it will 400 by hand, then 600 wetsanding.
