Default Taking off Rear panel decals

Alright, sorry if this is a stupid question. But, whats the best way to get rid of the Trans Am rear panel decal? Mine is fading, but the bird is fine. I just want to take the lettering off without screwing anything up......thanks in advance for any advice!

Remove the center panel first, then
Take the decals off with acetone/nail polish remover
sand with 1500 grit wet/dry paper
move up to 2000 grit
polish with plastic polish
Replace decals with your choice of color, or leave blank
If the search is working, search for center panel, or trans am rear panel

So sanding doesnt take paint off or scratch the panel at all? Is it just made of all black, tough plastic or something?

It's made of plastic, and yes the sanding will scratch the surface, but you can get it back to being unscratched, if you just want to remove the decals and not polish it, just use the acetone
