CETA bumper gone horribly wrong....
Well i decided to go for a free appearance mod day for my T/A. I did the side molding...great. Then went for the CETA bumper. sanded, then primer and then started to paint black. Well that black didnt look very good. So i sanded again with 320 grit. reprimered. Then sprayed with a nicer color black (also came in bigger can for same price). Looked pretty good...
So neighbor came out and complimented the job...along with his big dog. well buddy wanted to get a closer look so he sniffed up to the car and stepped on the clear plastic covering the wet paint...and sure enough pushed the plastic against the car. I know its pretty much ruined.
So how do I go about treating the bumper for a new coat? its waaay too rough in these spots (in the pics) and i need it ultra smooth again. More grit? some sort of scraper? im going to just remove the bumper this time and do it in my empty dining room. and how easy is a bumper removal?
heres the pics guys enjoy...help me out here if you got some ideas thanks
heres a wider shot:

I would strip the whole thing and start over. 180-220 should take it down quick and then move your way up to 320 and 400. Make sure to clean the part extremly well with some paint prep cleaner and water, anytime I sand a coat I will reclean it just incase I left any hand oils on the peice while sanding. Reprimer it with some sandable primer and knock it down with some 400 grit again. Then spray your black. It looks like you are holding the can to far away and not "wetting" it enough, overlap your stokes about 50%. Are you going for a semi gloss look of gloss? If your going for a gloss look, build up about 4 good coats of clear then wet sand it with 1500, you may need and additional 2-3 coats and wet sand again. Give it a week or so to harden and then hit it with a swirl remover. It's amazing what you can do out of a spray can.

Thanks alot for the helpful info. By 4 coats of clear do you mean a can of clear coat spray? So i would spray that before any black? Im going for a high gloss look. And i just overlap my strokes back and worth half the time? I tried to stay 6-8 inches away. It was a little windy. The whole process of painting outside just wasnt working tho. hopefully on tuesday i can take it off and paint it properly inside.
your camaro looks georgous btw

Yep, spray paint clear. Your paint steps would be, sandable primer, black coat, then clear coat. If you bring it inside it will make things much easier, it will also be easier if have a bright light shining on it. To get the smoothest coats possible you almost want to bring the paint to the point of running, that's what I meant by wetting. Just play around with you techniques, you can always sand the paint off if you don't like how it came out. Just let the paint completly dry before doing any sanding.
Thanks for the compliment.

JAvenger - That sucks but it's definitely fixable. It will look really nice when you are done too.

thanks guys. I should be able to finish it tomorrow. ill post up a list of parts i used for those interested. It took me about 5-6 hours total which included reprimer and painting with the more glossy paint. You can see in the second pic where it stuck and i tried to spray extra over the blotch but it just ended up running. Theres really nothing much to be done at that point. Oh well, theres no bugs, grass clippings, and wind inside my house so i think itll turn out much better. the neighbor is a pretty good buddy and bought me a couple new cans of my choice and a special nozzle for concentrated spraying. hes got an enclosed car port for his bimmer that he offered up but im pretty satisfied with my dining room instead.
btw not having my rear mount rigged up yet def helped. I sprayed under the bumper as well to give it a complete coat and spraying the turbo would not of been good...although the loudmouth tips wouldnt have been there.
