Default Spray paint for interior

Ok Im doing a modification to my radio bezel and Im going to need to paint it. What I wanted to know is what is a nice quality brand of paint/primer/clear that I can use for this project. If I can get everything in the same brand from the same place that would be cool. Also it would be nice if they can match whatever color I ask for. I also read somewhere that I should use adhesion promoting primer for the plastic to help the plastic stick.

There's quite a few different brands you could use, really. I've used Krylon Fusion paint and Duplicolor exterior paint with great results. I know you know this type of stuff since I've seen you around here a lot, but truthfully it's all in the prep -- I haven't used any adhesion promoters on my dash yet, I've been working on my dash for the past month now repainting each piece in my spare time. I use regular Duplicolor High-Build Primer, sand it down and then paint it with Duplicolor's regular exterior paint, then top with Duplicolor Top Clear Coat. Works and looks great, just take your time with (wet)sanding. I've also heard nothing but good remarks about SEM paint and how well it matches with stock colors, but alas I've never used it so I couldn't go into detail.

Well I tried looking into SEM but their site is to hard to navigate I couldnt find any spray paint there, but I could have been looking in the wrong place. I heard PPG has some good paint, I would have used Duplicolor but from what Ive checked on their site they dont make an aerosol for my car color. So I guess Im back to square one. Thanks anyway man.

Ah, snap. Good point, that's quite the unique color to try and color match. I vaguely remember reading somewhere that paint companies can mix up batches and put it in aerosol cans, that might be a good bet for ya.

Thats exactly what I decided to try. I went to automotivetouchup.com and ordered a mix of my paint color. Hopefully it will turn out good, if not they have a guarantee on the colors so theyll mix it again if it doesnt match. So you know, Im going to be painting my radio bezel after Im done fabbing it up for my carputer monitor.

Can't wait to see it finished! I'm entirely refabbing my bezel along with the rest of my interior, I've smoothed out all of the dash pieces already and repainted with a lot of black and a lot of red (I'm not posting pics here until I'm finished, haha I learned my lesson about posting unfinished pics of my interior), I just need to redo the carPC bezel and I'll have pics soon after. I just need to figure out how to make a 7" touchscreen look decently normal in a 93-96 radio bezel with a 97+ center console, makes the job much harder! You guys with your 97+ interiors are so lucky.

Z28-CTYHNTR - it looks like you went with black for your bezel. What paint did you use and how close to factory did it match?

I actually bought some duplicolor charcoal black (I think) color vinyl and fabric spray paint, and by chance it matched my interior perfectly. I only got that type because it was the only color I saw in the store of any brand that looked similar to the OEM interior.

You have the ebony interior right? From duplicolors site these are the colors you may have used. Know which one?

HVP104 Gloss Black
HVP106 Flat Black
HVP109 Medium Gray
HVP111 Charcoal Gray

Yep I have the ebony interior, Ill check when I get home, the can is in my garage. Ill tell you one thing, I had to try twice to get the color right. The first can I bought was kinda of gray but it was way too light. So the next time I got the darkest one I saw which (the spray can cap) looked a tiny bit lighter than black. I know this for sure, its not gloss black, its not flat black, and I think the first color I used that was too light was medium gray. Again, ill check when I get home and let you know.

Well Ill be damned, I just checked, and its HVP106 Flat Black. Kind of funny because it doesnt look like typical flat black when its painted. The one I used that turned out to be too light was charcoal gray. Hope that helps.
