Need some buying advice
summer is coming up (i hope) and I think I'll finally get a portercable buffer. I've always done everything by hand and have been scared by buffers
it sounds like this one, its pretty hard to burn the paint
what I need help with, is someone to just say, "here buy this"
I know there is a sticky, but I need more of a personalized list, with prices
I have TONS of wax, mainly the megs 3 stage stuff. so I'd want to finish that stuff off before I buy anything else. But I still need:
towls, pads, cut wax etc, basically everything besides the wax, I do have some of the polish left from the 3 stage...
I have a 2002 black ta, so I need to fix some of the fine scratches that you get with black paint.
I also want to fix the fine scratches on my '87 red iroc
So can someone recommend what I need to buy? Sponsors?
Thanks guys!
Porter Cable (duh right
Sonus pad kit (has several different colors of pad, plus the backing plate for the PC) ordered from http://store.bettercarcare.com/son-daspad-kit.html
Menzerna IP & FP & FMJ kit, it also included the micro fiber applicators, and an MF polishing cloth (looking around they don't seem to make that kit anymore, so you'll need to get this,
http://www.premiumautocare.com/mecarcakit.html
plus the IP
Then of course you'll want a selection of MF towels, pakshak, or one of the others ZaneO has mentioned are good sources
1 large waffle weave, (or electric leaf blower to dry the car)several smaller detailing MF towels, and for doing the wheel wells door jams, and the other dirtiest areas, go to wal mart and pick up some of their MF towels
Bucket, and lambswool/sheepskin wash mitt, and some car soap, stoners invisiglass, and some NXT for the inside
That was pretty much my shopping list, you can add or subtract whatever products you wish
Unfortunately I live in a small town, and am forced, due to the lack of local suppliers, (we have wal mart, and some mom&pop parts stores, but the nearest national parts chain is a 30 mile drive) to do most of my shopping for things like this online
Whatever you use, it's the prep that's going to give you the WOW factor not what wax/polish you use
BTW I forgot the clay bar, that was only about $10
It seems expensive, but in reality you don't use alot of the product, so it does last along time. I've still got nearly a full bottle of FMJ, IP, & FP (not to mention the Z2, Z5), about the only thing I've had to buy more of is the Z6 detail spray, and I've done my dads Maxima, moms QX4, my wifes Jeep, and My T/A

This is an excellent kit. If you get that, a PC 7424/7336, and a 6" backing plate (around $20), that would be an excellent start. It will last quite a long time.
Check around for good towels, and see if you can get a package deal. As mentioned before, a waffle weave drying towel would be a wise move, and about 6-8 small buffing towels should be plenty to get you started.
